Innovative technologies for charcoal production

Efficiency and sustainability at every stage

At Wisent, we leverage advanced technologies to produce high-quality charcoal. Our proprietary technology, developed by our subsidiary Wisent Machinery, ensures maximum energy efficiency with minimal environmental impact.

At the core of our process is the BOSA 6-150 FL kiln, which operates on the principle of pyrolysis — the thermochemical conversion of wood into biochar at controlled temperatures in the absence of oxygen. This process enables us to produce clean, high-quality charcoal while significantly reducing energy costs and CO₂ emissions.

The pyrolysis process — efficiency without compromise

Pyrolysis is the thermochemical transformation of organic raw materials in the absence of oxygen.

In the BOSA 6-150 FL kiln, wood is converted into biochar with a high carbon content, making it an excellent alternative to fossil coal. The pyrolysis process maximizes energy retention in the final product while ensuring minimal emissions.

This makes our biochar an ideal choice for industries looking to reduce their carbon footprint.

Closed-loop production cycle and environmental friendliness

Our technology supports a closed-loop production cycle, with each stage optimized for the efficient use of resources.

The exhaust gases generated during pyrolysis are repurposed to dry the wood and sustain kiln operation, significantly reducing energy consumption.

The kiln operates in a continuous mode, maintaining stable temperatures and consistent productivity, which helps to shorten the production cycle. This ensures that the charcoal production process is not only energy-efficient but also environmentally friendly.

How does our kiln work?

The kiln consists of six identical pyrolysis reactors, each operating independently.

Every reactor is equipped with a dedicated door, allowing a retort filled with raw materials to be inserted using a forklift.

The removable retort also functions as a container for cooling and stabilizing the charcoal.

This design eliminates the need for additional cooling tanks, significantly reducing costs and minimizing the human resources required for kiln operation and maintenance.

Once the charcoal is cooled and stabilized, it is discharged from the retort, which is then reloaded with raw materials and prepared for reinstallation in the reactor.

The six pyrolysis reactors are integrated into a single vessel, creating a unified furnace space that significantly reduces heat loss.
The furnace also functions as a coolant generator for all six retorts.
The reactors are loaded with retorts in a staggered sequence, ensuring the continuous operation of the kiln and maintaining a consistent temperature within the reactors.

To handle raw materials with a high moisture content, the kiln is equipped with six pre-drying units.

These units are powered by exhaust flue gases, which reduces the energy required for wood drying, shortens preparation time, and results in higher-quality charcoal produced in less time.
